UCI Affiliates – Register to use the internet and Wi-Fi
Before you can access UCI’s network via Wi-Fi or wired connections on campus or in residential housing, you need to register your computer or mobile device. This is done by registering the hardware (MAC) address of your computer or device.
To register the MAC address, you must have either a valid UCInetID or register as a Guest. Details on how to do both are below.
Guests / Visitors
Guests are encouraged to use our new UCI Guest Wi-Fi Network. It’s easy to get connected. The network is restricted to internet browsing but you can access most of the UCI Libraries’ electronic resources.
Two Ways to Register
Express Registration (ExpressReg) – UCI Affiliates and Visitors (On-campus only)
From your mobile device, select the “UCInet Mobile Access” network. Open a browser and try to connect to any web page. You should be redirected to our Express Registration page. Log in with your UCInetID and password or visitors may choose “Login as a Guest.” See the Support tab for detailed instructions.
Manual Registration – UCI Affiliates
Add your devices manually and view all of your existing registrations. If ExpressReg doesn’t work, use this method. You must have a UCInetID to use Manual Registration.
Things to Know
- Inactive devices are removed after two years – Any computer or registered mobile device will be automatically removed after two years of inactivity. This includes both wired and wireless devices. If your device has been removed due to inactivity, you may re-register it by calling the OIT Help Desk (949-824-2222).
- NOTE: You can also use eduroam when you return to campus. eduroam does not require you to register your device’s MAC address to connect to the network.
- Usage Logs – Using the UCI campus Wi-Fi network generates logs about your device connecting to the WiFi infrastructure. OIT uses such data for operational and security purposes. OIT may further anonymize and share such data with research teams building campus-level smart services. Learn more about WiFi Connection Data Sharing.
